Parks and Gardens in Davangere

Baathi Gudda, a barren natural hillock, is located 4kms from Davanagere city. It serves as a beautiful viewpoint from where one can see the Davanagere diary, the famous Bhadra Sugar Factory and the scenic Baathi Lake. Initiatives have been taken up to plant around 95 thousand saplings making it look like a mini-garden. These include a number of varieties of flowering plants which are of immense help to the botany students and are extensively used in their studies.

Another popular picnic spot is the Sulekere also known as Shanthi Sagara. As the name suggests it is the harbinger of peace to all those who visit it. It is about 30kms from Davanagere and this is known to be one of the largest ponds in Asia. It plays host to a large number of tourists all through the year. Built during the 12th century by Princess Shanthi, the pond is a major source of supply of drinking water and agricultural activities. It is spread over an expanse of 4416 acres surrounded by a hilly region. Sulkere acts as a reservoir for waters flowing in from surrounding villages. The temple of Sri Siddeshwara located near the pond adds a sacred feel to the atmosphere.

Parks and Gardens in Davanagere

Kondajji is another famous spot located 12 kms from Davanagere. It serves as a ground for scouts and guides camps which are commemorated to Kondajji Basappa. The place is complete with 3 hills and a lake where one can go for boating.

Kunduvada Kere is another popular picnic spot which provides a marvelous view of sunset located near Kundwada village of Davanagere city. It is one of the best places to spend a quiet evening by the water.

The Davanagere City Municipal Council has also taken up the initiative to build parks all over the city. They serve as playgrounds for children, a place to socialize for elders and a track for walkers and joggers. Some of the major parks are the Jaalinagar Park, Sri Rama Park, Tank Park, Vishweshwarayya Park, Kid’s park, Senior Citizen’s Park and Jayadeva Udyanavana.

All these are well maintained and are a favourite hangout place for all the locals.
