Trains to Davanagere

Davanagere offers a renovated railway station offering quality facilities to the rail traveller. The South Western Indian Railways helps connect Davanagere to the rest of the country. It is estimated that the Davanagere station serves almost three thousand passengers on a daily basis.

Davanagere by Road

Bus Services in DavanagereTransportation by road remains the most popular mode of accessing this city. As this city lies on the national highway 4 (previously called Poona-Bangalore highway or the Mumbai-Chennai Highway) it remains well connected to cities such as Bombay, Pune, Goa, Bangalore, Mangalore and Chennai. Private operators also provide additional transportation.

A variety of vehicles are operated by the service providers such as mini-vans, air-conditioned busses and the routine commuter buses. Although the prices vary between the service providers, the rates are well within the national average for such travel. In general, visitors can expect a fairly comfortable journey with facilities such as food outlets, toilets and other facilities during extended commute.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) provides a variety of transportation options to and from Davanagere. Transportation within the city is also provided by KSRTC and other private services. KSRTC was established in august 1961 under the hospices of the road transportation act of 1950. Davanagere region is included within the functionality of the branch of KSRTC operating around Bangalore. The infrastructure belonging to KSRTC includes corporate offices, divisional offices, depots, stations, hospitals, training institutes and sports complexes. 

Auto-rickshaws and taxis are also available at nominal costs. There are a few kinds of Auto-rickshaws to help commute across Davanagere by sharing the costs with other travellers or by pre-paid mode of hiring or by payment based on travelling distances.

Davanagere by Air

Although an airport has been proposed to be built in Davanagere, it is not yet operational. The Hubli airport remains the only airport within commuting distance from this city. This airport is the only closest point of air connectivity to cities such as Bangalore and Chennai. Based on the memorandum of understanding between the government of Karnataka and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) an all weather airport is to be set up such that the facility would be capable of receiving flights of the likes of Boeing 737 and Airbus A-320.
